Steply iPhone Widgets: Put Your Step Count Anywhere on Your Home Screen
The best step counter is the one you actually check. Steply's iPhone widgets make your daily progress impossible to ignore — visible every time you wake your phone, without opening the app. When your step count is always in front of you, you make better movement decisions throughout the day.
Available Widget Sizes
Steply offers widgets in three sizes for the iPhone home screen, each designed to deliver the right amount of information without cluttering your layout. The small widget is ideal for a quick numeric check; the medium widget adds a progress visualization; the large widget gives you a full daily dashboard at a glance.
Small Widget
2×2 grid
Shows your current step count and a compact progress ring. Perfect for a corner of your home screen.
Medium Widget
4×2 grid
Displays steps, distance, calories, and a larger progress bar. Good balance of info and space.
Large Widget
4×4 grid
Full daily dashboard with step count, distance, calories, streak counter, and today's progress ring.
How to Add a Steply Widget
Adding Widgets to Your Home Screen
- •Long-press on any empty area of your iPhone home screen
- •Tap the '+' button in the top-left corner
- •Search for 'Steply' in the widget search bar
- •Select your preferred widget size
- •Tap 'Add Widget' and drag it to your desired position
- •Tap outside to exit edit mode — your widget is live
Widget Update Frequency
iOS limits how often widgets can update to conserve battery — Steply's widgets refresh approximately every 15–30 minutes in normal use, and more frequently when the app is in the foreground. For real-time step counts, open the app directly. The widget is best understood as a frequent checkpoint rather than a live counter.
Widget Placement Tips for Maximum Impact
- ✓Place the small widget on your most-visited home screen page for passive awareness
- ✓Use the medium widget on a dedicated fitness home screen page alongside other health apps
- ✓The large widget works well as the primary element on a second home screen page
- ✓Lock screen widgets (see our lock screen guide) give you step data without unlocking your phone
The Psychology of Visible Progress
Studies on behavior change consistently show that visible progress indicators increase goal achievement rates. When your step count is a number buried in an app, it's easy to ignore. When it's on your home screen, you're reminded of your goal every time you check the time, respond to a message, or switch apps. That low-friction awareness is what makes widgets one of the most effective features in Steply.
